New Guidelines Available for the Redding Rancheria Community Fund

Redding Rancheria has established new funding guidelines for the Redding Rancheria Community Fund. For the past two years this fund has awarded grants to schools in the areas of the arts and physical education. With the new guidelines Redding Rancheria will award grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and public entities in the areas of arts/culture, education, environment, health and social services. Community Foundation Announces A New Scholarship Opportunity

High school seniors in seven Far Northern California counties may be eligible to apply for new Opportunity Scholarship funds. College Access Foundation of California has awarded $360,000 to Shasta Union High School District for students in Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity Counties over a seven-year period. The Shasta Regional Community Foundation in partnering with SUHSD to distribute awards and manage the funds.

Each student awarded a scholarship can receive up to $10,000 per year for up to four years. Initial requirements include completing a FAFSA and a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. To be awarded, the student must be eligible for a Cal Grant (3.0 GPA and financial stipulations) and attend a Cash for College workshop during January or February.

Seniors graduating in 2008 who are planning to attend a four-year accredited college may apply beginning in January. Completed applications, due March 31, will be accepted by Shasta Regional Community Foundation.

IRS Launches On-Line Workshop for Exempt Organizations
(Jan. 27, 2007) The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has launched a new Web-based version of its popular Exempt Organizations Workshop covering tax compliance issues confronted by small and mid-sized tax exempt organizations.
The free online workshop – Stay Exempt – Tax Basics for 501(c)(3)s – consists of five interactive modules on tax compliance topics for exempt organizations:
Tax-Exempt Status – How can you keep your 501(c)(3) exempt
Unrelated Business Income – Does your organization generate taxable income?
Employment Issues – How should you treat your workers for tax purposes?
Form 990 – Would you like to file an error-free return?
Required Disclosures – To whom do you have to show your records?
Users can access this new training program at www.stayexempt.org. Users can complete the modules in any order and repeat them as many times as they like. The online training website does not require registration and its visitors will remain anonymous.
