Guide of Giving
Who are we?
Neighbors helping neighbors. Since 1999, residents of Shasta and Siskiyou Counties have been able to make their philanthropic and charitable donations to the Shasta Regional Community Foundation. We are a public charity serving the residents of Northern California with one goal in mind – improving the quality of life in the region. Individuals, families, businesses and organizations create permanent and short-term funds that help our region meet the challenging and changing times. The foundation invests and administers these funds. We make distributions from the funds, awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships each year to many of the humanitarian, educational, and cultural organizations that make this region so remarkable.
The Shasta Regional Community Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity that allows individual and organizational donors to establish charitable funds. Like all community foundations, we are overseen by a volunteer board of leading citizens from Shasta and Siskiyou Counties and run by professionals with in-depth knowledge of the community needs. In addition to our work with charitable funds and grant making, we work closely with area non-profits to identify current and emerging issues so we can address the needs of our region currently, as well as prepare for the future.

How does it work?
The idea of a community foundation is simple – anyone may use it to give back to his or her community. Funds established at the Community Foundation are professionally managed in either money market funds or a diversified portfolio of mutual funds aimed at providing long-term growth as well as providing short-term stability. Grants or scholarships are awarded out of each fund in accordance with your interests. Assets that are donated to the Community Foundation create one of several types of funds in order to reach your ultimate philanthropic goals. You may honor a loved one with a memorial scholarship fund, specify a particular non-profit organization, or benefit a certain field-of-interest. Some funds are short-term, while others are endowed and will be in existence for perpetuity. Your donation can make a difference for good, for ever. Here is how we can help you:
     • Managing the fund, overseeing its investment and maintaining tax records
     • Filing tax returns and providing an independent audit
     • Providing the services of experienced grant makers who know the community, its needs, and its organizations
     • Ensuring that grants are always awarded in the name of your fund
     • Issuing regular financial reports detailing the status of the fund

Why choose us?
We know and care about our community.

When you choose to invest in the future of your community, you want to work with someone that knows the region. The broad cross section of leaders, from Shasta and Siskiyou County that guide our organization, lends valuable insight that will help your charitable giving achieve maximum results.
We help you achieve superior tax benefits.
The IRS considers us a public charity so contributions are eligible for the highest available tax deductions. In many cases, these tax benefits will allow your funds to more directly benefit your charitable goals than if you establish your own private foundation. Please see your professional advisor.
We make set-up and administration easy.
We take care of all the administration and grantmaking activities, eliminating the need for you to set up a separate institution, formulate policy, file innumerable forms and monitor the status of grant recipients. We save you time and money.
