The role of the donor advisor

As active partners in the work of Shasta Regional Community Foundation, donor advisors play a critical role in enriching the lives of Shasta and Siskiyou residents through charitable giving. We invite you to:

  • Annually evaluate your own charitable goals. We can assist you in achieving them.
  • Find out how the Community Foundation can help you address local needs and objectives.
  • Talk with Community Foundation staff when your charitable interests change. We can update your fund agreement.
  • Review the quarterly statements we send to you. Ask us questions about your fund balance, grants made, or ways to increase the balance in your fund.

Recommending a grant

Once you have established a donor advised fund, you may send us your grant recommendations in writing, via fax or email. You may want to use our Donor Recommendation Form for this purpose.

You may recommend grants that support to nonprofit organizations, a particular project, a scholarship, equipment, or other purposes. Grants may be made in honor or memory of someone you wish to acknowledge.

While many donors are already informed about the causes and organizations they wish to support, others may seek the expertise of our staff in identifying priority needs and worthy organizations in our communities. We can help you target a specific field of interest, cause or organization to make the most of your philanthropic endeavors.

How it works

When we receive a grant recommendation, staff performs due diligence research to make sure each organization has a legal charitable status. Recommendations are presented to our board of directors for review and action.

Upon approval of the grant, a check and grant award letter are mailed to the recipient organization. Following receipt of the grant, the nonprofit organization is required to report back to the Community Foundation concerning the use of the funds to insure that the grant funds were used in the way they were intended by the donor.
